West Mississauga’s Destination for Comfortable, Convenient and Cosmopolitan Family Living

MISSISSAUGA – Anchored by the regionally-renowned Erin Mills Town Centre, the vibrant and welcoming neighbourhood of Erin Mills Centre is home to many other key local institutions including the Credit Valley Hospital. It’s also home to some of the most attractive and family-friendly homes in the City of Mississauga – and continues to be a development hotbed for both high-rise condos and low-rise developments.

Central Erin Mills is a relatively new neighbourhood in Mississauga, where development took hold in the late 1980s – culminating in the completion of the Town Centre in 1989. These days, quiet and inviting streets such as Credit Valley Road and Plantation Place are home to many charming detached residences perfect for young families.

Along Eglinton Avenue West just south of the Town Centre, it’s a different story – trendy, urban and sophisticated high-rise condominium developments have been springing up and are soon to be joined by even more.

The Erin Mills Town Centre: Mississauga’s Premiere Shopping and Lifestyle Destination

With more than two decades of history in western Mississauga, the Erin Mills Town Centre is still going strong. The main mall building’s iconic clock tower can be seen from all over the neighbourhood, and is a local landmark.

Inside the centre itself, shoppers can treat themselves to some retail therapy at trendy big-name shops like H&M, Aldo, Bath & Body Works, Reitman’s and RW & Co. When the shopping is all done, visitors can enjoy a great meal at Spring Rolls, Montana’s or one of the many other dining options available on site.

The Town Centre features plenty of parking and an easy-to-navigate indoor layout – so you can enjoy a simple and stress-free shopping experience.

A True Family Neighbourhood: Schools and Recreation

Without a doubt, the top-notch schools in Central Erin Mills are one of this neighbourhood’s biggest draws. The area boasts four elementary schools centrally located: Middlebury Public School on Banfield Drive, the Blessed Trinity Catholic School & Credit Valley Public School on Credit Valley Road, and St. Rose of Lima Separate School on the Gallops (just southeast of the hospital).

John Fraser Secondary School

With a list of accomplished alumni that includes renowned violinist Susanne Hou and the Vancouver Canucks’ alternate captain Manny Malhotra, this high school is renowned for its high standard of educational excellence. It also enjoys a convenient and central location, right across from the Town Centre on the north side of Erin Centre Boulevard.

John Fraser S.S.’s students met a high standard of performance in mathematics during the 2011-12 school year, with 86 per cent of the school’s Grade 9 academic math students meeting or exceeding provincial standards. During the same year, first-time-eligible Grade 10 students enjoyed a 90 per cent success rate on the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) – a full eight per cent higher than the provincial success rate the same year.

St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School

One of the top Catholic high schools in Mississauga, St. Aloysius Gonzaga S.S. shares a building with the Erin Meadows Community Centre on the west side of Glen Erin Drive. This top-performing school’s students enjoy excellent facilities including a TV studio, auto centre, drama stage and greenhouse.

In 2011-12, 93 per cent of Gonzaga S.S.’s Grade 9 academic math students performed at or above the provincial standard. The same school year, first-time-eligible Grade 10 students enjoyed a remarkable 96 per cent success rate on the OSSLT.

In addition to the Community Centre, this neighbourhood features plenty of green space and lots of fun ideas for outdoor recreation. Crawford Green in the neighbourhood’s south end, for example, features multiple sports fields and scenic trees. Between McFarren Boulevard and Erin Centre Boulevard, a sprawling natural forest features an enjoyable walking path – right across the street from the Quenippenon Meadows Leash-Free Park and Community Park.

Cutting-Edge Condos and Towns in a Classic Residential Community

In many parts of this community, detached homes with plenty of frontage and elegant brick exteriors conjure images of the ideal suburban life – backyard barbeques, road hockey, or during winter, a festive display of holiday lights.

As this bustling node continues to expand and develop, a number of cool new residential developments have joined the traditional ones, especially in the areas adjacent to the Town Centre:

  • Pemberton Group’s Papillon Place, a set of stunning condominium towers along the south side of Eglinton Avenue (west of Erin Mills Parkway) saw the completion of its fourth and final tower – dubbed the “Miracle in Mississauga” – in 2012.
  • Immediately east of Papillon Place, between Glen Erin Drive and Metcalfe Avenue, Pemberton is working on another project. “Downtown Erin Mills” will feature two contemporary high-rise condominium buildings.
  • Just a little bit further east on the same strip (at the corner of Erin Mills Parkway), Great Gulf Homes is developing a new project called “HOT Condos” – a 400-suite mid-rise build scheduled for completion in 2015.
  • A couple blocks west of the mall and a stone’s throw from St. Aloysius Gonzaga, you’ll find the Daniels Corporation’s Erin Centre Village (Rio Court at Plantation Place). Daniels’ Home Investment Program offers potential homebuyers the ability to rent one of these three-bedroom homes for a period before actually purchasing it with the help of a bonus certificate.
