One of the greatest things about the GTA and the communities we serve, such as Markham, Richmond Hill, Mississauga and North York, is the opportunity to work with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds.

In fact, Living Realty’s team of agents includes many Cantonese- and Mandarin-speaking real estate professionals – many of whom are proud to have roots in China and Hong Kong. Needless to say, Chinese New Year is a cause for celebration at our brokerage!

As the Chinese Zodiac’s Year of the Horse nears its end, we are preparing to enter the Year of the Ram (also known as the year of the Goat or Sheep) on February 19. In the Chinese Zodiac, the Year of the Ram is traditionally regarded as a time to focus on kindness and sensitivity – especially when it comes to family and close friends. For those who are creatively inclined, it also tends to be a strong year for artistic output.

Characteristics of the Ram

Those born in the year of the Ram(1907, 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, or 2015) are said to adopt the characteristics of this unique and complex creature. While they tend to be introverted and mild-mannered, sheep are also well-regarded for displaying high degrees of focus, independence, and thoughtfulness. People born in Ram years tend to succeed in business roles, due to their strong analytical skills and penchant for thoughtful decision-making.

Those born in 2015 (or 1955) are born in the year of the Wood Ram. Inheriting the characteristics of the wood element, those born in Wood Ram years tend to avoid the spotlight, generally preferring quieter scenarios and ample opportunities to work and relax independently. They are also, however, known for their extraordinary drive and work ethic when it comes to achieving personal goals.

Famous Canadians born in the year of the Wood Ram include television host and four-time Emmy nominee Howie Mandel (born November 29, 1955) and five-time NHL All-Star Dave Taylor (born December 4, 1955) –  whose number was retired in 1995 by his long-time employers, the Los Angeles Kings.

Famous Figures Born in the Year of the Ram

Many notable individuals – including a good number of Canadians – have been born in the Year of the Ram. Can you recognize the characteristics above in any of these famous figures?

  • Pierre Elliott Trudeau, Canadian politician (1919)
  • Robbie Robertson, Canadian musician (1943)
  • Robert Duvall, actor (1931)
  • Joni Mitchell, Canadian songwriter (1943)
  • Jimmy Kimmel, Comedian (1967)
  • Donovan Bailey, Canadian Olympic athlete (1967)
  • Ed Sheeran, songwriter (1991)
  • Rachel Lefevre, Canadian actress (1979)

Whether you’re celebrating with family or attending one of the various community events across the GTA, we’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our GTA Real Estate News readers a wonderful Chinese New Year – and the very best of luck – in the Year of the Sheep!
