Newly-Opened Bridge Connects Angus Glen Communities

MARKHAM – For the first time since residential construction began in the posh York Region golf community, the residents of Angus Glen East and Angus Glen West are finally connected by local road thanks to the completion of the Blackstock Bridge on April 17.

The paved bridge connects two portions of Angus Glen Boulevard, which had previously been interrupted in the middle by a scenic stream that also runs through the world-famous Angus Glen Golf Club, located just across Major Mackenzie Drive to the north.

In a nod to the history of the area, Kylemore Communities, who designed and built the community, decided to name the bridge after Frank Blackstock Stollery, whose grandson Arthur Stollery was the original purchaser of the plot of land during the 1950s. The former Stollery, the son of a local home builder, was best known as the founder of the recently-demolished (but indisputably iconic) Stollery’s menswear shop at the Toronto intersection of Yonge and Bloor.

Frank Stollery’s great-granddaughter, Lindsay Stollery, was present for the bridge’s opening, along with City of Markham mayor Frank Scarpitti and Councillor Amanda Collucci.

“It has always been in our master plan to connect the two neighbourhoods by extending Angus Glen Boulevard across the creek,” said Kylemore Communities president Patrick O’Hanlon (who we featured on this site two summers ago).

“We know that residents will appreciate this new route to get around from home, to parks, shops, the Angus Glen Community Centre, Angus Glen Golf Club, and local schools.”

The community master plan was a 2014 recipient of the City of Markham’s prestigious Design Excellence Award, and also was honoured by the Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Association in 2013 as a “Places to Grow Low-Rise Community of the Year.”

For those interested in purchasing a home, a limited selection of low-rise options are still available, as well as a selection of course-overlooking luxury condominiums at the 6th at Angus Glen.

2015 is already shaping up to be a big year not only for Kylemore’s homes, but for the Golf Club, which completed a revitalization of its South Course in 2014 and will provide the official venue for golf events during the GTA’s upcoming Pan Am / Parapan Games.
