Chinese New Year 2017: Year of the Rooster

As the Year of the Monkey comes to a close, the team here at Living Realty will be taking a moment to reflect on what a fortunate year it was for our brokerage.

After all, it was one in which we had the privilege of announcing not only a new sales volume record, but also the January opening of our Yonge & Bloor Branch – which, by the time the Year of the Rooster begins on January 28, will already have started welcoming its first walk-in visitors.

What lies ahead for Chinese New Year and beyond? According to Astrology Club, the year is going to bring “fresh challenges, requiring quick wit and practical solutions.” Regardless of Chinese Zodiac sign, all will stand to benefit from adapting the traits of those born in the Rooster year – who themselves may be, coincidentally, looking at a very unlucky year ahead.

Characteristics of the Rooster

Those born in the year of the Rooster (2005, 1993, 1981, 1969, 1957, 1945, 1933) tend to reflect the animal’s signature traits: observance, loyalty, punctuality, and an incomparable work ethic. Because they tend to enjoy attention and time in the spotlight, vanity and boastfulness are more negative traits that can commonly be found in Rooster personalities.

Like the other signs of the Chinese Zodiac, there are four types of Roosters attributed to the calendar. 2017 (and 1957 before it) are years of the Fire Rooster.

Those born in Fire Rooster Years are said to be exceptionally trustworthy, with a strong sense of time-keeping and workplace responsibility. While highly sought-after for their managerial talents, fire roosters are very conscious of deadlines, and can be prone to impatience and short tempers.

Famous Canadians born in the year of the Fire Rooster include Paralympian and disability advocate Rick Hansen and CBC news correspondent Neil Macdonald, who were both born in 1957.
