Markham, ON – Living Realty today announced the launch of its third annual Thanksgiving food drive.

Running from today until the start of October, the Food Drive will collect non-perishable food items for the benefit of the Daily Bread Food Bank – a GTA-based charity that aims to “end hunger in our communities”.

The Thanksgiving food drive was first held by Living Realty in 2017 and, following the initial success, was held again in 2018. In those two years over 3500 lbs. of food was collected, providing a great benefit to our local community.

Recognizing the importance of the food drive and in acknowledgement of the response from staff and visitors to the Living Realty offices, the GTA-based real estate brokerage has now decided to make the food drive an annual tradition.

For this year’s food drive, the company hopes to collect more than ever before and has set a target of collecting at least 2000 lbs of food. Donation boxes have been installed at each of Living Realty’s branch offices and the company is encouraging everyone to drop off as many non-perishable food items as possible.

According to the Daily Bread Food Bank, some items are needed more than others and there is a particular need for the following items:

  • Baby food and formula
  • Peanut butter
  • Oatmeal
  • Canned meat and fish
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Rice, grains and lentils,
  • Pasta and pasta sauces
  • Cans of soup, stew and chilli

As it has in previous years, Living Realty has promised to also make a cash donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank, pledging to give $1 for every pound of food collected. With a target of over 2000 lbs, that means another sizeable donation could be heading the way of the food bank, following on from the $2000 donated in each of the last two years.

At the launch of the food drive, Living Realty’s Broker of Record, Kelvin Wong, explained the inspiration behind the idea: “Thanksgiving is a time when we reflect on the opportunities we have been afforded and can be thankful for the many blessings in our lives.  It is also a time when we have the opportunity to give back to the community and a food drive is the perfect way to help those in need around us.”

Mr. Wong added, “We have been thrilled by the generosity of staff, friends and visitors in the last two years and we hope that we can show a similar level of generosity once again. Our aim is to collect at least 2000 lbs. of food by the start of October and to write as big a cheque as possible as a result.”

Anyone wishing to donate items to the food drive can do so at any of the following branch locations:

Branches are generally open from 9am to 9pm on weekdays; for exact hours please contact the branch directly.
