Living Realty has launched its 2020 Christmas charity campaign, announcing a fundraiser for the benefit of Canadian Tire Jumpstart.

In recent years, the real estate brokerage has made it a tradition to run a charity drive in the run up to Christmas. The goal is to support children in the local community and began with a toy drive in 2017, flowed by a winter coat drive in 2018 and a sports equipment drive in 2019.

In each of those cases, donation bins were set up at Living Realty’s five GTA locations and visitors to the offices were encouraged to make donations. In light of the covid-19 pandemic and the responsibility we have to keep each other safe, a similar charity drive was not practical this year. However, now more than ever it is important to help those around us so Living Realty decide to switch its charity efforts to an online fundraiser – allowing everyone to contribute in safe manner.

The online fundraiser will be collecting donations for Canadian Tire Jumpstart – a charity that helps financially disadvantaged youth participate in organized sport and recreation. Since 2005, Jumpstart has helped over 1 million children get involved in sports that they would otherwise have been unable to play.

An online fundraising page has been set up by Living Realty to allow people to make secure online donations. As the page is set up through Jumpstart, all donations will go directly to Canadian Tire Jumpstart and 100% of the donation goes directly to helping kids play sports. Jumpstart will issue tax charitable receipts for all donations of $20 or more.

Living Realty’s Broker of Record, Kelvin Wong, spoke about the Christmas fundraiser and explained some of the reasons behind the company’s charity efforts: “The holidays are a great time to give back, as many of us are fortunate enough to celebrate all the good things we have enjoyed, but it is often a reminder to the less fortunate of what they can’t provide for their kids.  As always, our focus for the holiday fundraiser is on children. “

“Due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic and our duty to keep each other safe and healthy, we cannot host a traditional drive. However, the pandemic has highlighted the importance of charity to help those in need, so this year we are hosting an online fundraiser. We hope it can be as successful as our Thanksgiving Food Drive, which raised almost $10,000 for the Daily Bread Food Bank.”

“Canadian Tire Jumpstart seemed like an ideal choice for this year’s charity. Having collected sports equipment in our drive last year and being a family-focused business, we are aware of the importance of sports for children and the benefits it can bring to youngsters. We hope that we can play our part to further improve the lives of children in our community.”
