Markham, ON – Living Realty celebrated a successful Thanksgiving food drive Thursday as the Chairman of the Living Group of Companies, Stephen Wong, handed over a cheque for $2000 to a Markham food bank.
The food drive was launched early-September with the aim of collecting 2000 lbs of non-perishable food items in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Collection boxes were installed at all five of Living Realty’s branches in the Greater Toronto Area and staff encouraged all visitors to join in and help the cause.
As a proud Canadian company for almost 40 years, Living Realty is grateful for the support it has received from the community and has always strived to give something back. The food drive was part of a long list of charitable endeavours by the company and, keen to make sure that people get the help they need, Mr. Wong announced at the start of the food drive that the company would donate $1 for every pound of food collected, with a promise that a minimum of $2000 would be donated.
The food drive proved to be an incredible success, with boxes overflowing at all the branches and a grand total of 1700 lbs of food donated. It was an incredible response from the community and one that made everyone very proud. While we did not meet our goal of 2000 lbs, Mr. Wong has made it clear that this will become an annual event going forward, and we hope to meet and exceed our goal next year.
To conclude the food drive, on Thursday representatives of the Markham food bank arrived at the Living Realty head office on Steelcase Rd, Markham, where they were handed a giant $2000 cheque by Mr. Wong.
Mr. Wong summed up the event: “We set big expectations when we started the food drive as we wanted to help as many people as possible. The response we got from staff and the community around us was fantastic and I would like to offer a big thank you to everyone who helped donate to the food drive. The food and money we have donated will make a difference and that was the ultimate goal.”
Although the Living Realty food drive has now ended, there is still much to be done. Food banks around the GTA and Ontario are doing a fantastic job and need as many donations as they can get. They are always looking for donations of food, money or time – all of which is valuable to them! We encourage you to contact your local food bank to find out what they need most and how you can help.
